St. Francis, named for founder Captain A.L. Emerson's wife, is the county seat of Cheyenne [CN] County. Located in the northwest corner of Kansas on two major highways, US 36 and Kansas 27, St. Francis is just over three hours from Denver. The community has good hunting and fishing in the immediate area, and it's only a four hour drive to the ski slopes of Colorado. Locally there is an excellent selection of recreational facilities available including parks, bowling, swimming, tennis, basketball courts, and one of the finest golf courses in western Kansas.
